APTE Certified Personal Trainers NASM Reciprocal Certification FAQs

APTE is prioritizing continuing education and professional specializations, to elevate professional growth providing exercise professionals with enhanced versatility and adaptability. If you wish to transfer your APTE CPT-RTS1 credential to NASM, you must opt in and provide consent. From there, your information will be shared with NASM and you can expect to receive additional email communication on next steps. To Opt-In, please click here

 

If you do not wish to transfer your credential, there is no action required.

No, there are no fees to transfer and convert your certification.

 

If you opt in by 11/7/2023, your APTE CPT-RTS1 will be transferred and converted to the NASM Certified Personal Trainer (NASM-CPT) credential by the end of 2023. We would like to point out that the following information will not change with this conversion:

 

  • Your original certification and expiration dates
  • The 2-year certification period
  • Your continuing education credits
  • Your ability to take continuing education with the APTE
  • Any credit vouchers you may have with APTE

 

Important Note: If you do not provide consent and opt-in, your APTE credential will not be converted to the NASM-CPT and will no longer be eligible for recertification through APTE. As of 12/31/2023, your APTE CPT-RTS1 will not be accredited through the NCCA.

Only the necessary account information will be transferred to NASM. This includes:

  • Full Name
  • Phone Number
  • Email Address
  • Mailing Address
  • Student ID
  • All your certificate information for the past 5 years.

If you opt in and provide consent by 11/7/2023, your APTE CPT-RTS1 will be transferred and converted to the NCCA Accredited NASM Certified Personal Trainer (NASM-CPT) credential.

Yes, NASM has been certifying personal trainers for over 30 years and has been a leader in nationally accredited certifications.

If you missed the deadline to opt in, you have the option to submit an appeal for more time. Appeals will only be accepted and reviewed up until 6/1/2024. 

 

If your appeal is approved, NASM and APTE will work to get your credential and personal information transferred to NASM.

If you still are working towards your credits for recertification, you will follow your normal process through the APTE student portal. 

 

Once your credential has been officially transferred and converted to the NASM-CPT, you will receive additional communication from NASM on how to recertify using the NASM online recertification portal. At that time, APTE can provide you with a certificate of completion for all earned CECs, and you will include that with your recertification application through NASM.  

 

 

You can continue taking and completing your CE courses with APTE using any credits or vouchers you possess. All APTE courses are preapproved through NASM and will be accepted as Continuing Education Credits for your recertification. Once your credential has been officially transferred and converted to the NASM-CPT, you will receive additional communication from NASM on how to recertify using the NASM online recertification portal. 

 

 

You can continue taking and completing CE courses with APTE using any credits or vouchers you possess. All APTE courses are preapproved through NASM and will be accepted as Continuing Education Credits for your recertification.

Yes, the APTE has stopped offering 6 months extensions since June 2023 and starting from August 10th, 2023, through September 30th 2023, the APTE  will only be offering a 3-month extension. Extending by three months will ensure coverage until December 2023. If you need further extension into 2024, you will be directed to NASM if you had chosen o opt in to the transfer.
